Crestron Programming Software
Crestron programming isn't hard, unless you make it hard. Don't overcomplicate things, and for god sakes - remember the KISS method (Keep It Simple, Stupid!).
Crestron Programming Tutorial Please Be fore warned: This is a No Frills tutorial. I have spared the time and expense of creating flashy graphics. What you will get instead are simple yet useful screen grabs from Crestron SIMPL Windows and Crestron Vision Tools Pro-e. When you have finished this tutorial, you will be able to create simple Crestron programs. The purpose of this Crestron programming tutorial is to assist programmers who are new to Crestron SIMPL Windows programming and or Crestron VisionTools Pro-E (VtPro-E) programming to get started in their first Crestron SIMPL Windows or VisionTools Pro-E project.

Take it from me, though, if you're 100% unfamiliar with SIMPL windows, you won't get anything out of having the software with no training anyway. It's a good program when you get used to it, but it takes all of that 3 day class to get up to speed.
In a convoluted way, D3 PRO takes the system information, and converts it to a SIMPL program. Seasoned SIMPL programmers would probably find D3 PRO to be quite frustrating. That's a good tip, and actually, you have no business programming Crestron systems for anyone but yourself if you don't learn from Crestron. For your own home theater, though, or some simple lighting control, you should be able to work it out for yourself, along with any knowledge you can pick up from internet forums. But, you'd have to have a background in digital logic, and be committed to spending a lot of time on learning how to use the software tools if somehow you could even get your hands on them.
Just as the title says. How the heck do you get Crestron's programing software? I have setup an account with them, sent e-mails, and tried calling.
I told him I see his point but I would still like to have access to the software as we have hardware that has been mothballed and would be nice to cut my teeth on so to speak. He told me he would make a few calls and see what he could do about getting our staff access to get the software. So still waiting. The software can be gotten 3 ways(as far as I can tell) one being if your a crestron dealer/installer, you sign up and attend one of Crestron's training sessions, and 3 if you buy enough hardware/programing from a crestron rep for your educational facility. So in my case my school has bought several crestron systems and programing updates for them.

Wow well this is an interesting thread. Haven't been on in a week or so but to comment on one of the last statements you may not need the VTProE file because it could be serial join and the data provided by the processor. Crestron software is restricted to the following. 1) Dealers 2) CAIPS 3) A+ Educational Partners Since you are an educational institution you would fall under #3, A+ Partner. You need to apply as a A+ Partner, it not automatic, and you need to work with a Crestron dealer.
